Travel from Laos to Myanmar

Laos and Myanmar shares a big part of border line in northern part of both countries. Travel from Laos to Myanmar is a hot trend as it offers a very fascinating way to traverse the less-known area that tourism has not touched.

Border Crossing from Laos to Myanmar

In 2014, Laos and Myanmar governments had signed an agreement to built a friendship bridge which links eastern Shan State - Tachileik and Luang Namtha, a beautiful mountain area of Laos. However, although the construction have completed in 2015, crossing border for both tourism and trade is still not open.
So far, up to 2017, this border gate is still not active for tourist.  

If you are really interested in caravan tour or land travel, it is better to journey up Mekong River from Luang Prabang passing Pakbeng to Houi Xay then Chiang Rai - Thailand before crossing Thailand - Myanmar border

Travel by  Air
There is no direct flight from Laos either Luang Prabang or Vientaine to any international airport of Myanmar. The best is to take a transit flight via Bangkok flight hub. There are many airlines offering the flight Vientaine - Bangkok or Luang Prabang - Bangkok then Bangkok - Yangon or Bangkok Mandalay.

Visa
For visiting Myanmar or Laos, you both need a visa. While Laos visa can be arranged upon arrival for many  tourists from Europe, America and Asia without any type of pre-document, Myanmar requires a valid visa or at least visa approval letter if you apply for Myanmar visa on arrival. 

Weather
Both two countries shares the same weather zone. They are hot and rain during summer time and cooler in winter - known as dry season.
