Myanmar Culture
Myanmar boasts a variety of cultural influences. While its neighbours including China, India and Thailand has certain impact to the country, especially for Buddhism; 135 ethnic minorities has formed very diversed regional culture from south to north. The language and cuisine reflects beautifully these influences in the daily life.
Religion
Majority of Burmese people practice Buddhism. This results the fact that there are thousands of temples, pagodas or stupa in the country. It is visible that in almost every village, you can find a stupa.
With more than 80% of the population follow Theravada Buddhism, Myanmar is also famous as one of the best places in Asia for meditation.
When the British came to the country, they also did missionary for Christian which is now part of Myanmar religions.
The community of Muslim people are also big in this country.
Language
The official language spoken throughout the country is Burmese although there are more than 100 dialects spoken by different ethnic groups. English is the common language for business which is widely used in big cities like Yangon, Naypyidaw.
Chinese is the 3rd popular language spoken in many parts of the country.
Dress
The most traditional custom of Myanmar is Longyi. This is a type of sarong silk, worn by both wonmen and men.
For business, longyi is accompanied with T-shirt or jacket.
Nowadays, the young generation also adopt the western wears with suit, trousers and jean.
