While the visa policy is more opening with 28 days tourist visa, the government have also rapidly improved the road condition and giving more access to its remote areas. Myanmar Border Crossing

Though all borders are not officially opened yet but many are very easy to cross. Popular border checking points that motorcycle riders often take are :

Thailand - Myanmar Borders includes Mae Sot / Myawaddy; Ranong / Kawthoung; Mae Sai / Tachilek; Phu Nam Ron / Htee Khee
China - Myanmar Border : Ruili/ Muse

To cross the border, you can obtain visa through an embassy while some border gates even accept visa on arrival if you apply through your Myanmar visa application form. Visa exemption is only for Asean passport holders like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc..

Bring Your Own Motorbike

It is possible to bring your own vehicle either car or motorcyle if you travel and exit at the same way or at a border gate  that accepts exit differently. Please note that not all border are accessible.
The current law indicates that you need to register your travel day by day by an official itinerary then you need to be escorted by tour guide sent from an authorized travel agency or company who is eligible for border crossing or caravan tours. This is a very costly step to start your ride in the country.

Rent a Bike in Myanmar

This is actually a good option for motorcycle enthusium as it cuts the costs for border crossing permit but it also narrow your route as you will kick off and return at the same city.
The best place to rent or even buy a motorbike is Mandalay where local people ride lots of motorbikes and scooter. Depending on the type of bike you want, the rental fee varies slightly. You will also find some escort tour packages offered by local tour operator in this city as well.
