Mountain Bike

With green mountains, luch local plantation, it is no doubt that Kalaw is a premier choice for a mountain ride. You can opt some short trip to Lu Pyin village, Taunggyi Chay village or a further trail to Myinmahti mountain.

Morning Market

Hopping in a morning market of Kalaw is a nice experience. It brings you chances to get in touch with local people, seeing the farm products from Inle Lake and other towns displayed in some small stalls.

Kalaw Pagodas

The very first pagoda that attracts your eyes is Hnee Paya.This sacred pagoda is famous for its bamboo Buddha image which is said to be made some 500 years ago.

Kalaw Trekking Options

From november to Feb, Kalaw enjoys wonderful weather which is cool and not raining. During this time, visitors can find plenty choices for a trek whether is is half day or multi-days.

Half Day Treks

The most recommended walk for short distance is called World Peace Pagoda route. It takes about 4 hours, passing through many local villages until you reach the Thein Daung monastery, a very good viewing point.
Ywar Thit Village Walk is another interesting option. This trek lasts for 16km offering intimate touches to different villages, certainly different views.  

Trekking to Inle Lake

This is probably the most popular trek in Myanmar.
It is recommended by all the guide books and there is no difficulty to find a local tour operator who organize the adventures from 2 to 5 days. Basically, what makes the difference between 2 days and 3 days itinerary is the starting point and the usage of the transportation. How to get there

There are many ways to reach Kalaw from east or west, south or north. 

By Plane

The nearest airport to reach Kalaw is Heho, the main flight hub of Shan State. From Heho, it takes about 1 hour to reach Kalaw by car. The disctance between the town and airport is 26km and it costs about 45.000 kyat. It is advisable to book the transfer with your hotel or tour operator. 
Flight routes avaible for Kalaw include : Yangon - Heho, Mandalay - Heho,  Bagan - Heho, Lashio - Heho, Tachileik - Heho.

By Bus

Bus is one of the most common ways to arrive to Kalaw though it is not really comfortable. There are 3 buses from Yangon to Kalaw - 1 in the morning and 2 in the evening for overnight bus.
Bus fare starts from $19 for ordinary option. From Bagan to Kalaw, there bus in the morning and evening too. The price starts from $22 From Mandalay, it costs from $13 for 8 hours bus to Kalaw.
