In Myanmar, the national currency is Kyat. Bank notes available are: K1, K5, K10, K20, K50, K100, K200, K500, K1000, and K5000. ( K= kyat)
Local people still prefer Kyat for travel services or business as it is more popular and easy to trade.
US dollar may the be second popular money in the country and it is widely accepted. The US exchange rat is around 1usd = 825 Kyat. For travelers, it is the best currency though Euro are also accepted in Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan or Inle Lake.
For travelers, please be advised to bring US dollar to pay for your services if your tour costs not so much money.
Money can be exchanged at: bank, hotels, restaurant and authorized money- exchange agencies. We advise you to not exchange with people on the street, you may face some tricks.
US dollar should be new but Kyat can be old, it is still accepted.
There are ATMs in many tourist attractions now in Myanmar, however, what you can withdraw is local currency: Kyat, not US dollar and please keep in mind that the service fee to withdraw here is more expensive than the other country and there is a limitation for withdrawal aso.
